Pokemon came out in America in 1998. One of their most iconic pokemons being Pikachu. Who remembers Episode 1 when Pikachu was chubby and constantly shocking Ash? Pokemon is still continuing to release new episodes and new games, this franchise is about 17 years old now. Make's you kind of feel old now doesn't it?
Yes, it does. Nothing but nostalgia from here on out.
It didn't take long for the anime to get worse from where it started. I think all the rehashed episodic plots started with the third season, where it gets truly repetitive. It doesn't help that the movies, as overhyped as they may be, have to cater to the fans and introduce a legendary or multiple every damn time. Also, Ash had gotten worse as a character. It's like 70% of the time, he's the Anti-Stu. And then the rest of the time, he's a Gary Stu. A very dumb one, at that.
The games are pretty solid to this day, though the rehashes are still quite clear despite the new additions for each generation. The spinoffs are a mix of love and hate, only getting a few mild successes every now and then. It goes without saying: it's just not the same as it was in the '90's.
Love the first season, and still do. Nowadays, I don't keep up with the series because of how repetitive it has gotten, and it's just too long to keep up with. And then there's the point where it seems like they're running out of ideas when creating new pokemon. -.-
